Ingredients:
- 200g of pearl barley
- 500ml of vegetable broth
- 300g of fresh mushrooms, sliced
- 100g of carrots, diced
- 100g of celery, diced
- 100g of onion, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp of olive oil
- 1 tsp of dried thyme
- 1 tsp of salt
- 0.5 tsp of black pepper
- 120ml of heavy cream
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Kitchen Tools Needed:
- Large pot
- Cutting board
- Chef's knife
- Wooden spoon
- Ladle
Instructions:
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onions, diced carrots, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms, cooking for an additional 5 minutes until the mushrooms are tender.
- Add the pearl barley, vegetable broth, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15 minutes until the barley is cooked and has absorbed some of the broth.
- Stir in the heavy cream and let it heat through for about 2 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then remove from heat.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
