Ingredients:

  • 200g of cornmeal
  • 100g of all-purpose flour
  • 50g of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 5g of salt
  • 250ml of buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 100g of melted butter
  • 30g of chopped fresh herbs (such as thyme and rosemary)

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Baking Pan
  • Oven

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should remain somewhat lumpy.
  • Fold in the chopped herbs gently into the batter.
  • Grease the baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper, then pour in the batter evenly.
  • Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cornbread to cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.
