Ingredients:

  • 600g of white fish fillets (such as cod or haddock)
  • 200g of all-purpose flour
  • 150ml of cold beer
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 500g of potatoes
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Tartar sauce for serving

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Deep fryer
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Tongs
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels

Instructions:

  • Peel and cut the potatoes into thick strips, then soak them in cold water for about 15 minutes to remove excess starch.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Pour in the cold beer and whisk until smooth, creating a batter.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer to 180°C (350°F).
  • Dry the potato strips thoroughly, then fry them in batches for about 5-7 minutes until they are golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • In the same oil, dip the fish fillets into the batter and carefully lower them into the hot oil, frying for about 4-5 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  • Remove the fish with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Season with additional salt if desired.
